CONWAY, S.C. – Opening a two-game midweek series against No. 18 Coastal Carolina—the second straight midweek to see the Spartans face a ranked opponent—USC Upstate baseball jumped out early on the Chanticleers before seeing the hosts use a big inning late in the game to take momentum, ultimately, taking a 14-8 decision Tuesday at Springs Brooks Stadium.
Leading the Spartans at the plate, hitting two of the team's three home runs on the night, redshirt sophomore designated hitter
Noah Sullivan had a career day, tying his career highs for hits (four) and RBI (six) while registering his third career multi-HR game. He finished his night 4-for-5, slugging a pair of three-run homers to go along with a pair of singles.
Redshirt senior catcher
David Pereira launched the other home run for the Spartans, part of a 2-for-3 day that saw him drive in two and reach base three times. With its three home runs in game one of the midweek series, Upstate has hit multiple homers in 10 of 12 games this season.

How It Happened
- T3: Following a two-out single from Grant Sherrod and a two-out walk to Jace Rinehart, Noah Sullivan launched the first of his two home runs with a towering shot to deep left, putting Upstate on the board first with three runs in the third.
- B3: Getting two of its surrendered runs back, Coastal Carolina hung two tallies on the scoreboard behind a two-run homer from Derek Bender.
- T4: Taking the two runs right back and extending the lead back to three, David Pereira followed a leadoff single from Easton Cullison with a long ball to left.
- B4: Scoring the first run of the afternoon not driven in by a home run, the Chanticleers used a pair of sacrifices, a sac bunt and sac fly, to push across another run.
- B5: Taking advantage of a two-out walk, Coastal Carolina pulled within one on a double into the right-center gap by Jake Books.
- B6: Swinging momentum squarely in their favor, the Chanticleers fashioned the largest inning of the game, seeing 10 runs come across to score. Coastal Carolina clubbed three long balls in the inning, a solo shot from Ty Dooley, a grand slam by Graham Brown, and a two-run blast from Blake Barthol.
- T7: Chipping away at the Coastal Carolina lead, Sullivan launched his second three-run homer of the night, again depositing it over the wall in left.
Notable
- Hitting two homers in game one of the series with Coastal Carolina, Noah Sullivan recorded a multi-homer game for the third consecutive season, becoming the only player in the program's Division I era (2007-pres.) to accomplish the feat. His third career multi-home run game ties him with teammate Jace Rinehart for the most by a Spartan in the program's D1 era.
- With his multi-home run game, Sullivan becomes the fourth different Spartan with a multi-homer game during the 2024 season, joining Rinehart (twice), Grant Sherrod, and Koby Kropf.
- Adding another three home runs Tuesday, Upstate has hit multiple long balls in 10 of 12 games this season, hitting three or more in a game six times this season, including in each of the past four games.
