After Securing the No. 1 Seed in the Upcoming Big South Softball Tournament, the Spartans Pause Big South Play to Host S.C. State in a Mid-Week Clash at Cyrill Stadium

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After taking the Big South series against Gardner-Webb and earning its eighth regular season championship in program history, USC Upstate softball will finish its week with a non-conference doubleheader against South Carolina State Wednesday night at Cyrill Stadium.

Players to Watch 

USC Upstate: USC Upstate enters the double header after taking games two and three of the series against Gardner-Webb. Sierra Maness, Maddie Drerup, and Alyssa Kelly all pitched one game respectively, but it's the freshman that leads the pitching staff with a 2.42 ERA and 12 wins. Maness collects her 12 wins after throwing 107 strikeouts across 133.0 total innings. Denver Lauer leads the Spartans' offense with 28 runs, 45 hits, seven doubles, four homeruns, 27 RBI, 64 total bases, and 34 stolen bases along with a .346 batting average, .492 slugging percentage, and a .427 on base percentage. 

S.C. State: The Bulldogs go into Wednesday's games with a 10-24 record after most recently sweeping the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday and Saturday. DeAsia Lowther leads S.C. State with three runs, 19 hits, five doubles, one homerun, 13 RBI, 27 total bases, and one stolen base along with a .292 batting average, .415 slugging percentage, and .347 on base percentage. Destiny Calloway leads the Bulldogs' pitching staff with a 4.10 ERA, three wins, and 34 strikeouts after 59.1 total innings pitched. 

 
Up Next for the Spartans 

Upstate gets the weekend off to prepare for the final week of the regular season. The Spartans are set to begin next week with one game in Columbia on Wednesday night against the Gamecocks before taking on the Winthrop Eagles Saturday and Sunday in the final Big South series of the season.
