Players to Watch  

Upstate: The Spartans began the 2024 regular season on a high note after downing the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte 2-0 on Thursday. Dara Russo earned her first Big South weekly honor of the season as her two goals on four shots ultimately lifted the Spartans to their first victory. Catarina Dantas also earned weekly honors from the conference as her work on the backline helped Upstate pull off the first shutout victory of the season. Freshman Marley Gerber and junior Meghan Groah split time in the net but it was Groah who claimed the first few saves of the season.  

St. Peter's: The Peacocks started the season with a 4-2 loss on the road to the Howard Bison. Lucia Mansilla Medina and Macey Williams scored one goal each in an attempt to best the Bison. Annabelle Adams played the full 90 minutes in the net for the Peacocks and made six saves on nine shots faced.  

Delaware State: The Hornets began the 2024 season with a 2-0 loss to Mount Saint Mary's on Sunday afternoon at home. Thalia Johnson led Delaware State's offense with one shot goal while Nicole Cargill and Brianna Brady tallied one shot each. Katie Knapp and Shelby Pollard split time in the net with Knapp making five saves and Pollard collecting three as well.  

 
 
UP Next for the Spartans   
Upstate will return home to Spartanburg to host VMI in their home opener on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
