Players to Watch Â
Upstate: The Spartans return to Spartanburg following their three-game road stand to begin the season. Most recently, Upstate was able to secure its second shutout victory of the season after downing Delaware State 4-0 on Sunday. Nya Baccelli was the standout player of the match as she tallied three goals in the first 27 minutes of the match. Baccelli's efforts on the field last week earned Upstate its third Big South weekly honor of the season as she was named the Offensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon. Marley Gerber and Catilyn Davis shared the clean sheet after playing 45 minutes respectively.Â
VMI: The Keydets start the 2024 season with a 3-0 record after most recently beating the Wasps of Emory & Henry 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Caroline Marini and Riley Boucher scored one goal each while Cadee Hegarty and Audrey Davis were each credited with an assist. Whitney Tracy occupied the net for the full 90 and wasn't forced to make a single save against the Wasps. Â
Peter T. Foundation
In partnership with the Peter T. Foundation, USC Upstate Women's Soccer is set to dedicate its home opening match – Friday, August 30 at 7 p.m. vs. VMI – to the awareness of pediatric cancer and the facilitation of joy, comfort and experiences for families in need. The event will feature an in-game recognition, video tributes, and a stuffed animal drive benefiting children in need.
Named for Peter Tyszko, the late childhood friend of USC Upstate freshman goalkeeper Madison Ejgird, the Peter T. Foundation recognizes that cancer affects not only the child who is diagnosed, but their entire social circle, and emphasizes a holistic approach to support children and families who are suffering. The organization hosts and participates in community gatherings, blood and toy drives, and fundraising events in Peter's memory, working toward the physical and emotional healing of those affected by childhood cancers.
