Spartans Achieve Third Shutout of the Season After Saturday Night Draw Against the Terriers

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's soccer team collected its second draw of the season after a 90-minute battle with the Wofford Terriers resulted in a 0-0 finish.

Upstate started the game strong, outshooting Wofford 7-4 through the first 45 minutes. Nya Baccelli and Paige Armstrong led the Spartans' offense with two shots apiece while Savannah Noll, Dara Russo, and Journey Hawkins all recorded one each. Meghan Groah made her fourth consecutive start in goal for the Spartans and made one save in the first half. Groah alongside Savannah Noll, Catarina Dantas, Adrianna Pepe, Emily Rangel, and Hailey Sapinoro were able to keep the Terriers scoreless through the first 45 minutes.

Coming out of the halftime break, Upstate recorded three unanswered shots, one of which was on frame and one of which rattled the frame but went out of bounds off the deflection. Despite firing off seven shots, Upstate was unable to find the net, but Wofford faced a similar situation as the Terriers were also unable to get on the board. Baccelli led the team on offense through the second half with four shots, alongside Margret Edda Bjarnadottir who had two shots and Dara Russo who had one shot on frame. The Spartan defense remained vigilant and kept the Terriers' offense at bay for Upstate's third shutout of the season. After recording yet another seven saves, Groah earned her first solo shutout as a Spartan.
