BURLINGTON, NC - Persistent rain brought on by Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 disrupted the Elon Invitational, suspending play during the third round. The Spartans had completed the third round, with Rylie Kosney shooting a 75, Supatta Puttanavarat a 76, Madison Dixon carded a 78 to highlight another wet round. The Spartans had already departed Alamance Country Club when informed that play was halted and then unable to resume, hence the third round was nullified and results reverted to the 36 hole scores.
Puttanavarat and Kosney will finish tied for 19th, while Dixon will close out the event at +12. Whiteside finished at +16, Grace Garner at +19, and Alexis Rieli at +13.
"(Monday) was a test of mental fortitude. Though I think we could have played better, there were a lot of great shots out there today," said assistant coach Liza Eubanks. "I'm proud of the endurance the women showed and look forward to another opportunity next week at the College of Charleston's event."
The Spartans finished tied for ninth overall, carding 303-308-611 as a team. The Spartans were part of a tight group of teams - six in all - separated by just 5 strokes after two rounds. Charleston Southern secured the top spot on the leaderboard with a score of 285-306-591.
UP Next For USC Upstate: The Spartans will head to Asheboro, NC, to compete at the Tot Hill Farm Invitational on September 23rd hosted by the College of Charleston.
