How It Happened
Coming off a five-set battle in its opening match of the CofC Classic Friday night, Upstate carried its momentum and fight into its first Saturday tilt. The Spartans pounced out of the gate, pushing the first set to extra points behind the strength of their block, collecting each of the team's 6.0 total team blocks in the set. The match marked the fourth this season seeing Upstate record 6.0 or more team total blocks in a match.

A stalwart in the Spartans' block, junior middle blocker Ady O'Grady recorded five total blocks (one solo block and four block assists) in the match, registering at least three total blocks in five of her six matches this season. Fifth-year senior right-side hitter Ali Jansen teamed up with O'Grady on three occasions with her three total blocks (all assists) tying a season-high.

Offensively, outside hitters, sophomore Alyssa Hook and graduate student Allison Palmi collected seven kills apiece to lead Upstate. Slotting behind the two outsides on the box score, O'Grady supplemented her blocking total with five terminations.

In service, the Spartans landed six winners, giving them at least four service aces in each match this season. Senior libero Julia Gladhill and O'Grady led Upstate with two service aces apiece, the duos fourth and second, respectively, matches this season with multiple aces.

Notable
  • Picking up another five total blocks versus College of Charleston, Ady O'Grady now totals 200 blocks in her career, becoming the ninth Spartan in the Division I era (2007-pres.) to reach the milestone. She sits four total blocks shy of eighth on the program's D1 era career top-10 list as she looks to surpass Madison Haake (203) for the spot.
  • With two service aces against the Cougars, Julia Gladhill has landed 59 in her Spartan career, ranking 10th in the D1 era in the category. She is two winners shy of passing Morgan Page and Kelly Wiedemann (60) for eighth on the top-10 list.

Up Next for the Spartans
