SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Taking the pitch for the final regular season match for a Saturday afternoon Big South duel with Longwood University, the Spartans battled with the Lancers with both opponents knotted at two apiece for a draw.
Opening the first half, Upstate's offense commenced with Jorhan Chopin and Vitalis Takawira Jr. Adding a touch to let Oskar Kaufmann finish the play for the first score at the 22nd minute. Five minutes later, a corner kick from Vitalis Takawira Jr. Resulted in Hilmar Hilmarsson finishing with a header at the 27th minute for his first collegiate goal. Longwood did not go away as the following minute resulted in the opening the scoring column on their side bringing their deficit to one going into the half. The second half opened with more intensity as the Lancers knotted the match at two to change the landscape of the match. With both teams looking to take advantage of their side, the score remained at two, resulting in a draw in conference play.
