Men’s Soccer duels with Presbyterian for Friday night action facing their first Big South shutout

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Ending the week returning to the County University Soccer Stadium taking on Presbyterian College in a Friday night Big South Conference showdown where the Spartans were unable to overcome the Blue Hose dropping their first match in conference play. 

The first half opened with the Spartans looking to start fast getting their offense going but the Blue Hose were able to match the intensity scoring the opening goal in the eighth minute. As the Spartans looked to regroup with multiple shots from Oskar Kaufmann and Justin Vallejo, Presbyterian held a 1-0 lead going in the break. The second half began with two consecutive shots from Upstate with Henry Burt and Vitalis Takawira Jr. Looking to get the Spartans going but both shots were off target. With Presbyterian looking to continue their attack, an own goal put the Blue Hose ahead by two. As the Spartans continued looking for answers on offense, Presbyterian collected key saves to end the match with a shutout win over the Spartans with a final score of 2-0.
