SPARTANBURG, S.C.-- Spartanburg's deep-rooted identity as Hub City will now be represented on the court as USC Upstate Men's Basketball unveils special edition city-inspired jerseys for an upcoming homestand. Fans will also be able to bid on these limited-edition jerseys, bringing a piece of Spartanburg history home.
The Spartans will wear the Hub City jerseys only on February 12 against UNC Asheville and the Homecoming contest on February 15 against Gardner-Webb at the G.B. Hodge Center.
Spartanburg earned the Hub City nickname in the late 1800s due to its prominence in the rail industry, with seven rail lines converging in the city's center. That history, along with the city's modern landmarks, is reflected in the design of the exclusive jerseys.
"We want to be ingrained in the community's DNA," said USC Upstate Athletic Director Matt Martin. "Spartanburg has a deep history, and these limited-edition Hub City jerseys represent not only our campus but also the city of Spartanburg."
The jerseys highlight Spartanburg's skyline and iconic landmarks, including the Spartanburg Town Clock, John C. Stockwell Administration Building, the Daniel Morgan Monument, The George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics ("The George"), and the city's tallest building, Denny's Tower.
Martin also highlighted the broader vision for the initiative: "This is a fun initiative we hope to replicate with different aspects of our campus and community over the next few years. We need to continue trying new things that enhance our student-athletes experience."
Bid on the Hub City Jerseys
The jersey auction will go live on Wednesday, February 12, at 9 a.m. and will run until 9 p.m. ET on Saturday, February 15. Proceeds will directly benefit USC Upstate student-athletes.
