SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Returning to the field for their first road game of the season, the Spartans, Upstate Softball takes a quick trip to Greenville, South Carolina for a road doubleheader at Furman University with the Spartans look to increase their all-time series over the Paladins.

Players to Watch 

USC Upstate: Junior Infielder, Carson Shaw comes into the matchup as the Big South Player of the Week after adding nine hits, two doubles, a .529 batting average, .647 slugging percentage, seven RBIs, and .600 on-base percentage. On first base, Shaw added 36 putouts with zero errors. Shaw has been a key player at bat for USC Upstate as the Spartans currently leads the nation with a .415 team batting average. Shaw is tied third on the team with a .447 batting average while adding 17 hits, five doubles, 17 RBIs, and three home runs. Furman will look to slow down the Spartans at bat including Carson Shaw in the lineup where the Paladins face a test with the Spartans taking their first road trip in Pepsi Stadium. 

Furman: Junior Catcher, Sylvia Burroughs currently has her best statistical season with a .450 batting average through 14 games. Burroughs also leads with 18 hit while adding one home run, eight walks, six doubles, six runs, eight RBIs, and a .675 slugging percentage. Burroughs will look to give the pitching staff of USC Upstate a challenge with making the Spartans use multiple pitchers. Furman looks to snap Upstate's winning streak along with stealing another game over Upstate on their home field. 

Up Next for the Spartans       

Following the midweek clash, the Spartans travel to Rock Hill for a two-day Coach Cooke Tournament at Winthrop. The Spartans will take the field at 10:00 A.M. and 12:30 P.M on Friday, February 28th. Upstate will conclude with two more matchups at 10:00 A.M. & 3:00 P.M.
