
Maddie Drerup tabbed as the Big South Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Following a 3-0 week in the circle, the Big South announced player of the week honor where Junior Pitcher, Maddie Drerup was named to the Pitcher of the week due to her impactful week earning her first honor of the season and third of her career. Â
The Junior from Fort Mill, South Carolina appeared in three games for the Spartans (two as a starter and one as the relief pitcher) going 3-0 with two complete games against Furman and St. Bonaventure. Drerup struck out 13 batters, pitched two games with over 100 pitches, and finished with a 1.47 ERA. In the game against Youngstown State, Drerup made an appearance as the relief pitcher to finish with five innings pitched and two strikeouts which was enough to earn the win. For the second consecutive week under the direction of pitching coach Tonya Medders, the Spartans highlight the honors of pitcher of the week proving that Upstate's pitching staff has much depth through a long season. Through 20 games, Maddie Drerup has appeared in 11 and leads the Big South with a nine wins, ranked third in the conference with 41 strikeouts, and tied fourth with one save. USC Upstate as a pitching staff currently leads the league with a 2.65 ERA and ranked #49 in the NCAA. Maddie Drerup will look to continue her consistency in the circle with five games slated for the week of Mar. 3- Mar. 8.Â
