SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ending a three-game series spread across multiple midweek contests at three separate locations, USC Upstate baseball dropped the rubber match with Wofford, falling 10-5 Tuesday evening at Russell C. King Field.
Attempting to claw its way back from an early deficit, Upstate used a pair of home runs to begin its comeback attempt. Junior third baseman
Owen Ross slugged his first homer in a Spartan uniform in the second, putting a pair on the board for the Spartans before redshirt sophomore centerfielder
Scott Newman followed in the third with his team-leading 13
th long ball of the season.
Adding to his first career homer, Ross collected a career-high three RBI on the evening. Seven Spartans recorded a hit Tuesday with junior second baseman
Gage Griggs and junior catcher
Preston Lucas knocking doubles, joining the homers from Ross and Newman as four of the team's seven hits went for extra bases.

How It Happened
- B1: Jumping on the scoreboard first, Wofford notched five tallies in its first trip to the plate. Home runs from Niko Brini, Ryan Wynn, and Andrew Mannelly manufactured the first four before an Upstate error allowed the fifth.
- T2: Getting a pair back for the Spartans, Owen Ross exited the yard to dead center, cranking his first long ball of the year, a two-run shot.
- T3: Another Spartan to leave the park to straightaway center, Scott Newman launched his 13th homer of the year, landing his solo shot on the railroad tracks beyond the wall.
- T6: Fighting back to tie the game, Upstate scratched a pair in the sixth. A wild pitch allowed the first of the frame, Johnny Sweeney scoring from third. Owen Ross added a third RBI later in the frame on a sac fly to center, knotting the contest.
- B6: Regaining the lead, Wofford collected three straight run-producing hits in the frame to score four runs, seeing RBI from James Layman, Tyler Hare, and Wynn.
- B8: Firing a single back through the middle, Wynn recorded another RBI as he grew the Terriers' advantage.
