CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the fourth time during the 2025 season, USC Upstate baseball claimed multiple Big South Conference weekly award winners as Amp Phillips and Max Bianchini earned Starting Pitcher and Relief Pitcher of the Week accolades, respectively, as the league announced its winners Monday afternoon.
Â
Hailing from Lancaster, S.C., Phillips secured his fourth consecutive quality start after working 6.0 scoreless frames against Gardner-Webb last Friday, earning his fourth victory of the season—his third straight in a start against a league foe. Leading to his scoreless evening, he induced a season-high three double plays and saw a runner caught stealing behind him as he scattered five hits and held the Runnin' Bulldogs to a .263 batting average.
Â
Bianchini, a Schaumberg, Ill. native, turned in 6.0 innings of scoreless relief for the Spartans across two appearances last week. He began the week working 1.1 innings against Tennessee Tech Wednesday before returning Saturday with 4.2 innings of scoreless relief at Gardner-Webb, earning the win. In both outings, he stranded an inherited runner in scoring position, leaving three such runners on the base paths while he combined to strike out three hitters on the week.
Â
For Phillips, his selection represents his third Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week selection while for Bianchini, his honor stands as his first career conference weekly award and Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week nod.
