CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Following a conference weekend series win against Winthrop on the Hawkins Field at Cyrill Stadium, the Big South Conference announced Player of the Week honors with Sierra Maness being named Pitcher of the Week for the second time in her sophomore season.
The Sophomore from Woodruff, South Carolina started in two games going 2-0 in the circle while pitching complete games through 14.0 innings and striking out 11 batters. With the Eagles coming into the series with a .259 batting average and 168 total runs, Maness took the approach to cool off the bats of the Eagles allowing just nine hits and one run through both games, finishing the weekend with a 0.50 ERA. Maness pitched her second shutout of the season in game three where Upstate iced Winthrop with a 6-0 win. With Maness' two wins over the weekend, she surpassed her freshman season in wins originally having 13 and now the wins leader at 15 in the Big South. On the season, Sierra Maness leads the Big South with a 1.96 ERA and is ranked #3 with 87 strikeouts. With a lot of Softball left to play, Sierra Maness looks to continue thriving under the leadership of pitching coach, Tonya Medders while showing consistency in the circle.
