WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Facing their second ACC opponent of the season, USC Upstate women's soccer traveled to face #18 Wake Forest Sunday afternoon. The Spartans netted two goals before the Demon Deacons pulled away for a final score of 6-2.
Wake Forest struck quickly, but Upstate answered with a goal from
Paige Armstrong to even the match at 1-1. Armstrong led the Spartans in shots with two. Thirteen minutes of play would go by before Wake Forest netted their second goal of the match.
Hannah Johnson was the second goal scorer for Upstate, netting her second career goal off a deflection save.
Starting in goal,
Madison Ejgird set a new career-high in saves with four, facing a career-high 30 shots.
Marley Gerber added a save of her own.

How It Happened
1st Half: Wake Forest claimed the first few shots of the match before earning a corner kick and netting their first goal.
Savannah Noll took the first shot for the Spartans. Her shot was blocked by the defense, but
Paige Armstrong collected the ball to slide it past the keeper. The Demon Deacons scored their second goal at the 25-minute mark. Upstate tied the game again five minutes later, courtesy of
Hannah Johnson. Wake Forest netted two additional goals to close the half.
2nd Half: Out of the break, Wake Forest wasted no time getting a shot off. Scoring their fifth goal off a corner kick. The 66
th minute marked the final goal for the Demon Deacons, with the Spartan defense holding strong for the last 20 minutes.
