SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Opening the new week, Upstate Men's Soccer hosted Wofford College for Tuesday night action at the County University Stadium where the Spartans took the victory hailing as the first win over the Terriers since September 17, 2022.
The first half opened with the Spartans starting fast with Vitalis Takawira Jr. Attacking the Terriers with his quick speed, scoring two consecutive goals within 18 seconds putting the Spartans ahead. Wofford looked to respond getting themselves out of a jam, but Jarrett Wuerslin kept the Terriers scoreless through the first 42 minutes. As the half grew to the 43rd minute, Lucas Bergfors found Tolu Fabamifobee in scoring position earning his first collegiate goal going into the half with a 3-0 lead. As the second half opened, Wofford looked to find their way back displaying their first goal of the game trailing by two. As the Terriers continued to get their rhythm going, the Spartans were put in a bind with Wofford scoring their second goal to now trail by one. Upstate's defense adjusted to the high intensity with the Terriers looking to tie the match but a key save from Jarrett Wuerslin helped the Spartans hold on for the win snapping their three-game losing streak.
