Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Offensive versatility rides the wave for Men’s Soccer cruising past the Bulldogs in the Ingles I-26 Rivalry

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Continuing play to end the week, Upstate Men's Soccer took the pitch for the Big South opener kicking off the Ingles I-26 Rivalry hosting UNC Asheville where the Spartans hot offensive night and solid defense halted the Bulldogs. 

The first half saw the Spartans adjusting to the Bulldogs' early press which saw Upstate setting the stage. With a corner kick at the 34th minute, Lucas Bergfors assisted Henry Burt for the perfect opportunity converting his first collegiate goal putting Upstate in the lead to go into the break. The second half saw the intensity grow with Michael Antoniewicz wanting his team to push the needle further on the home field. At the 48th minute, multiple touches from Oscar Kelly and Vitalis Takawira Jr. Resulted with Oskar Kaufmann finishing the play for the second goal. Five minutes later, the hunger for more success continued with Takawira Jr. Connecting with Oskar Kaufmann for his second goal, making it the second consecutive match a Spartan displayed a brace performance. With the Spartans' defense not giving an inch on the Bulldogs, Luke Marin found Lucas Bergfors sprinting his way for an opportunity with Bergfors finishing the play extending the lead to 4-0 at the 87th minute. With Asheville's offense coming to halt, tonight's win marked the first shutout in the Michael Antoniewicz era.

  • The brace performance from Oskar Kaufmann marks the second consecutive match that a Spartan scored two goals in a match. 

  • In goal, Jarrett Wuerslin picked up his third win and his first shutout of the season.
