SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate Athletics is excited to announce the Spartan Classic at the Carolina Cup College Am Golf Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the prestigious Carolina Country Club.
This signature event combines a premier golf experience with an opportunity to support more than 300 USC Upstate student-athletes. Participants will enjoy 18 holes on one of the Upstate's finest courses, paired with a USC Upstate golfer, while engaging in friendly competition and building lasting connections with fellow supporters.
"Coming out of a record year for Spartan Athletics, we've raised the standard," said Matt Martin, USC Upstate Director of Athletics and Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics. "This tournament gives fans, donors, and community members a chance to connect directly with our student-athletes while helping us continue to build a championship standard."

Maddi Currier, Associate A.D. for Development. "It's a hands-on experience for both our supporters and student-athletes, and the impact it makes on our department is tremendous."
Tournament highlights include:
- Longest Drive & Closest-to-the-Pin contests
- Hole-in-One challenge featuring a fully outfitted golf cart courtesy of Golf Cart Services
- Post-round reception with awards, games, skeet shooting, a custom hat experience, and exceptional food and beverages

Proceeds from the Spartan Classic benefit the Upstate Athletic Fund, ensuring student-athletes have the resources to succeed both on the field and in the classroom.

About The Course:
A Tom Jackson-designed, 18-hole championship course is among the top-rated in the Upstate. Stretching over 7,000 yards, the layout winds through a scenic landscape with streams and a signature lake in play. The course features six sets of tees, providing a challenge for all skill levels. Recent renovations include Champion Ultra-dwarf Bermuda grass greens and 419 Bermuda fairways.
Notable holes:
- Hole 4: The toughest hole, requiring a precise right-to-left tee shot.
- Hole 6: A 231-yard par three with a forced carry over water and an uphill approach.
- Hole 11: A short, 274-yard par four with a tight fairway and challenging bunkers.
- Hole 17: A par five with a risk-reward tee shot, lined with three bunkers and a sharp dogleg left.
