Ethan Guevin is in his second season as an assistant baseball coach at USC Upstate in 2015.
Guevin spent the 2014 season as a volunteer assistant coach working primarily with the Upstate infielders. Under Guevin's guidance, the Spartan infield finished the 2013 season tied for fifth in the Atlantic Sun with 41 double plays turned. Individually, senior Daniel Seeba proved to be one of the top defensive infielders in the league, ending the year with just two errors in 168 chances.
In addition to his work with the Upstate infielders, Guevin served as the team's first base coach and played an instrumental role in helping the Spartans earn wins over No. 25 Kentucky and 2014 NCAA Super Regional participant College of Charleston.
Guevin brings a wealth of experience to Upstate and joined the Spartan coaching staff after two years working on the staff at the University of California.
Prior to his stint at Cal, Guevin served as an assistant coach for the Lehigh Valley Catz of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League in the summer of 2011. Prior to coaching the Catz, he had played a year of professional baseball in Belgium and Australia after graduating from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
At Carleton College, Guevin was four-year starter as both a pitcher and a second baseman, earning all-conference honors in 2008 and 2009. Also in 2009 he was named the Rawlings NCAA Division III Gold Glove Award Winner while batting .363. As the Knights' No. 1 starter on the mound for four years, Guevin left as the school's all-time ERA leader. He was outstanding in the classroom as well, earning academic all-conference honors three years in a row and was named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District 5 Baseball Team and was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in both 2008 and 2009.
A 2005 graduate of Davis High School in Davis, Calif., Guevin was a three-year starter on the baseball team and a two-time all-league and All-Metro selection. He was the 2005 Monticello Empire League MVP as a senior, as well as the recipient of the Block D Award as the best athlete of his graduating class.
