Final Stats

CLINTON, S.C. - Senior Anna Novo added one more impressive mark to a lengthy list of accomplishments with the USC Upstate women's tennis team, as the Venezuelan tied the school record for combined wins with 137 as Upstate downed Presbyterian, 5-2, in the team's dual meet season opener on Monday afternoon.

Novo, who tied Diana Martinez (2004-08), with 137 career combined (singles and doubles) wins, as she notched her 62nd career doubles win, two shy of Martinez's school record of 64, and her 75th career singles win, two better than Martinez's mark of 73.

Fellow senior and Venezuelan Daniela Lovera also tied a mark of her own, winning her singles and doubles matches to move into a tie for fourth in school history with 96 career combined wins with Nena Lesnanska and Maria Herrera (2005-08).

The Spartans (1-0 overall) won the top two doubles flights to take the first point as Novo and sophomore Emilia Milovanovic posted an 8-2 win over Presbyterian's Heather Isbell and Virginia Waldron. Lovera and freshman Cinthya Lazaro added an 8-3 win over Megan Davis and Abby Diminich to take the point before the Blue Hose (0-1 overall) took the No. 3 flight.

In singles play, Novo wasted little time tying Martinez's mark, posting a 6-2, 6-0 win over Diminich. The Blue Hose closed the gap with a win at the No. 5 position from Paige Oelke, but Lovera gave Upstate a 3-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Davis. The Blue Hose closed the gap again to one point at 3-2 after a win at the No. 2 slot, but freshman Angie Solorzano clinched the win with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Waldron at No. 6. Lazaro closed out the win with a super-set tiebreaker win over Cara Caruso, 5-7, 6-1, 10-6.

Upstate gets back in action on Friday, when it travels to Troy for a 2:30 p.m. match. The Spartans wrap up the Alabama trip with a match at Alabama State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
