The USC Upstate women's soccer team dropped Sunday's match to visiting North Florida by a score of 4-1. With the victory the Ospreys improve to 4-6-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in the A-Sun, while Upstate falls to 0-11-0 and 0-2-0 in league play.
UNF got on the board first when Kristin Rhodes scored from the left side of the box. Rhodes' second goal of the season came in the 17th minute. The Ospreys pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute when Vladana Petricevic's shot hit the right post and bounced in. Elena Luzins was credited with the assist on that goal.
The Ospreys extended the lead to 3-0 with less than seven minutes remaining until halftime and that was the margin at the intermission.
Upstate posted its lone goal of the match in the 62nd minute when Daphnee Cadet scored her second goal of the season. Cadet's goal was assisted by Dior McGruder, the first of the season for the freshman.
Upstate nearly cut the deficit to one when Aveann Douglas took a shot from the top of the box that sailed just wide of the far post.
Freshman Sian Jenkins recorded nine saves during the match and it is the second time this season she has recorded nine saves. The other occurrence came on the road at Charleston Southern on Sept. 1.
UNF set the final margin at 4-1 when Michele Larrinaga scored in the 70th minute. The Ospreys outshot the Spartans 20 to 6. For UNF, 15 of those shots were on target, while Upstate managed just three shots on goal.
Upstate led the match in saves with 11, compared to two for the Ospreys. The Spartans recorded two team saves in the match.
Today's match concluded a three-match home stand for the Spartans. Upstate will hit the road for three of its next four contests. Upstate's next contest will take place in Nashville, Tenn. when they face Lipscomb at 7:00 p.m. (CT).
