Harris had a tremendous afternoon, finishing with 21 kills and
13 digs, but Jacksonville came out on top in the A-Sun volleyball
tilt, taking a 3-1 victory Saturday afternoon in the River City.
The Dolphins claimed the win by scores of 25-12, 25-13, 19-25 and
25-17.
Upstate fell to 7-14 overall and 1-5 on the year with the loss.
The Spartans host North Carolina Central in a non-conference match
on Wednesday. It will be the only match of the week for Upstate.
Jacksonville improved to 11-11 overall and 3-3 in the A-Sun with
the win.
Harris, from Champaign, Ill., was simply outstanding on the day.
She tallied 21 kills on 44 attacks with nine errors. She finished
just three kills shy of her career high and also tallied four aces.

Thomas (Plantation, Fla.) and Kelsie
Queen (Blythewood, S.C.) each totaled seven kills for Upstate.
Emily
Sanders (Sullivan Ill.) tallied a team-high 43 assists and 17
digs for her 14th double-double of the season.
Jacksonville started strong in the first set, building a 5-1
lead early on. Leading 8-5, the Dolphins went on an 11-2 run to
open an 18-7 lead and went on for the 13-point victory. Kathryn
Kane led the Dolphins with six kills and no errors in the
frame.
The second set was a thriller as Upstate brushed off the first
set and looked determined to even the match. Harris totaled 10
kills to lead the Upstate attack in the frame, After Jacksonville
opened a small three-point advantage at 6-3, Upstate fought back to
take an 8-7 lead on Thomas' kill. The set remained very close with
the Spartans opening a 15-13 lead.
However, Jacksonville came back to tie the set at 17-17. Upstate
managed a 22-19 lead, but three-straight Spartan attacking errors,
a Jacksonville ace and another attacking error by the Spartans gave
the Dolphins five consecutive points and a 24-22 lead. Upstate got
a point back on a kill by Harris to cut the lead to 24-23, but a
final attacking error gave Jacksonville the 25-23 win.
After the intermission, Upstate came out and played determined
to stay in the match. The Spartans opened the third set with
six-straight points to take a 6-0 lead. After Jacksonville cut the
lead to five, Upstate opened a 10-point advantage, 18-8. However,
the Dolphins would not go away and used an 8-0 run to get within
18-16, but Upstate outscored Jacksonville 7-3 the rest of the way
to take the win. Queen had four kills to lead a balanced Spartans
attack in the set.
Jacksonville ended the match with a win in the fourth set. The
Dolphins broke open a close frame with a 10-2 run midway through
the set to take a 19-9 lead. Upstate would only get as close as
seen the rest of the way as the Dolphins went on for the 25-17 win
in the set to secure the 3-1 win in the match. Brittany Lehman
totaled four kills in the set to lead Jacksonville. Harris had five
kills for Upstate.
Upstate posted the same number of kills as Jacksonville did in
the match, 47, but the difference came in attacking errors. Upstate
committed 29 in the match and hit at a .138 percentage.
Jacksonville committed just 12 errors and hit at a .292 clip.
Jacksonville was also all over the net on the day, coming up with
24 assisted blocks.
Kane and Aidan Yeager led Jacksonville with 10 kills apiece.
Kendall Courtney topped the club with 38 assists, while Ashley
August collected 12 digs.
