The USC Upstate men's tennis team won its fifth straight match on Friday afternoon, downing A-Sun foe Belmont, 6-1, at the Davis Complex.
The Spartans (7-4 overall, 3-0 A-Sun) now have compiled five-match winning streaks in each year of D-I play and in 11 of the last 12 years.
Upstate got out to a strong start, winning all three doubles matches. Senior Javier Tori and Renzo Airaldi downed Renato Antun and Rafael Matos, 8-5, at No. 1 and sophomores Ramiro Blanco and Edgar Rodriguez downed Joao Paoliello and Rodrigo Amaral, 8-6, at No. 2 to clinch the point. Senior Jack Roux and junior Marco Linconir added a 9-8 (7) win over Bruno Silva and Felipe Cirne Lima.
In singles play, the Spartans stayed hot, with Rodriguez notching a 6-1, 6-2 win over Antun at No. 1 and Linconir adding a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lima at No. 6. Blanco added a 6-1, 6-3 win over Silva at No. 5 and Roux posted a 6-0, 6-4 win over Matos at No. 4, giving Upstate a 5-0 lead. Tori added the final point with a superset tiebreaker win over Paoliello at No. 3, 6-4, 3-6, 10-2, to round out Upstate's scoring.
Upstate wraps up its Tennessee trip on Saturday, facing A-Sun foe at Lipscomb at 10 a.m.
