Final Stats

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - As they have nearly all season, freshmen Francisca Valderrama and Simona Cacciuttolo each won their singles and doubles matches to help the No. 75 USC Upstate women's tennis team to three of its five points in a 5-2 win over Belmont in Atlantic Sun Conference action at the Davis Complex on Friday afternoon.

Upstate (7-1 overall, 3-0 A-Sun) won all three doubles matches, led by the freshmen team of Valderrama and Monica Pezzotti, as they downed Abby Leatherwood and Laura Stack, 8-3, at No. 1. Cacciuttolo and junior Emilia Milovanovic added an 8-4 win over Catherine Holliday and Lindsay Bennett at No. 2 to clinch the point before Cinthya Lazaro and sophomore Ana-Sofia Camberos posted an 8-6 win over Abigail Hogan and Natalia Nunes at No. 3.

In singles play, Belmont (3-5 overall, 0-1 A-Sun) tied the match after a withdrawal at No. 2. Upstate responded, though, as Camberos notched a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Nunes. Cacciuttolo gave Upstate a 3-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Holliday and Valderrama clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Leatherwood at No. 1. Lazaro also notched a 6-4, 6-2 win over Hogan to round out Upstate's scoring before a loss at No. 4 wrapped up the match.

Lazaro reached a couple personal milestones during the matchm as she reached 30 career singles wins, which moved her into a tie for 13th in school history. Her 53 combined wins are also tied for 15th in school history.

The Spartans wrap up the weekend with a pair of matches, facing Lipscomb at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Murray State at 2 p.m.
