CLEMSON, S.C. – Competing in their first match of the 2011 spring season, the USC Upstate women's tennis squad fell on the road at Clemson on Saturday night inside the Clemson Indoor Tennis Complex.
In doubles action, the Spartans (0-1) managed to win just three games against the Tigers. Upstate's Catherine Estupinan and Karen Martinez claimed two games against Clemson's (3-0) Maria Belaya and Caroline Magnusson. Meanwhile, Ana-Sofia Camberos and Talia Rojas won just one game.
Martinez, despite falling 3-6, 2-6, had the best performance on Saturday as she was the lone Spartan to claim multiple set victories in each set.
Rojas fell in straight sets to #48 Keri Wong, while Camberos fell 1-6, 6-0 to Maria Beleya. Estupinan fell 0-6, 1-6 to Caroline Magnusson.
Upstate will return to action next weekend when they travel to Elon, N.C., to face the Elon Phoneix. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
