Upstate Volleyball Falls to Kennesaw State, 3-1

KENNESAW, Ga. – The USC Upstate volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision today at Atlantic Sun Conference foe Kennesaw State by scores of 25-19, 24-26, 26-24 and 25-21.

The Spartans were led by senior Morgan Thomas (Plantation, Fla.) with 19 kills, matching her career-high set against North Florida Nov. 22, 2008. Junior Emily Sanders (Sullivan, Ill.) paced Upstate, collecting her 13th double-double of the season with 40 assists and 11 digs.

Sanders is the A-Sun's active leader in career-assists with 2,315. She ranks third in Upstate history, passing Morgan Bucciferro's (2006-09) mark of 2,279.

Junior Emily Bingham (St. Petersburg, Fla.) helped the Spartans, recording a season-high 14 kills. Defensively, sophomore Morgan Page (Woodstock, Ga.) led the team with 19 digs. Junior Mindy Quimby (Keenesburg, Colo.) contributed seven kills and 12 digs on the day.

Kennesaw State was led by 28 kills from Justine Young and a double-double of 19 kills and 19 digs from Alyssa Lang. Sara Metroka handed out 53 assists for the Owls, while Camille Pedraza added 13 digs.

KSU holds a 6-2 overall advantage against Upstate with a 4-0 record at home. The Owls beat the Spartans last week in Spartanburg 3-1 Oct. 21. KSU also won last year's meeting 3-1 in Kennesaw, Ga., Nov. 6, 2010.
