SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Competing in its final match before opening conference play, the USC Upstate men's tennis team up-ended Wofford, 5-2, on Wednesday at the Upstate Tennis Complex.
For the first time this season, the Spartans swept all three doubles matches. At doubles number one, Ramiro Blanco and Matias Di Pasquale defeated Wofford's Tinus Van Wyk and Stuart Robertson by a score of 8-6.
The Spartans claimed doubles number two by a score of 8-1 (Gonzalo Blanco/Edgar Rodriguez def. Michael Schecter/Alan Donald), while claiming doubles number three, 8-4 (Marco Linconir/Ignacio Velez def. Matthew Shemanski/Jack Seiffert)
The reigning A-Sun player of the week, Edgar Rodriguez, claimed a straight sets victory over Tinus Van Wyk, 6-4, 6-3. Upstate's Blanco brothers, Ramiro and Gonzalo, won their respective singles matches. Ramiro Blanco claimed a come from behind win at singles number two, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, as he defeated Michael Schecter. Meanwhile, Gonzalo Blanco claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Stuart Robertson.
Upstate picked up another singles victory as Matias Di Pasquale rallied past Alan Donald, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they open conference play against No. 49 ETSU.
