SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After dropping the doubles point, the USC Upstate men's tennis team battled back and claimed five of six singles matches en route to a 5-2 win over Lipscomb on Friday at the Upstate Tennis Complex.
Lipscomb claimed the doubles point as they claimed wins at doubles number two and three.
"We had a slow start today and the wind didn't help us either," said head coach Oliver Trittenwein. "Our number one doubles team of Ramiro Blanco and Matias Di Pasquale played well as they claimed an 8-6 win over a very talented duo from Lipscomb."
The Spartans fought back and claimed five of the six singles matches, all coming in straight sets.
"I had a meeting with the team between the doubles and singles matches, just trying to rally them and get them going today," added Trittenwein. "I was proud of the effort everyone gave in singles play as we were able to shut the door early on Lipscomb and claim the win today."
At singles number one, Edgar Rodriguez downed Oliver Strecker, 6-2, 6-2. Meanwhile, at singles number two, Ramiro Blanco had a battle with David Salazar in the first set (7-5) before making quick work in the second set, 6-1.
Matias Di Pasaquale claimed a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Chad Pierron at singles number three, while Gonzalo Blanco (6-0, 6-1) and Marco Linconir (6-1, 6-4) claimed victories at singles number four and five, respectively.
The Spartans will return to action tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. when they host Belmont on senior day.
