SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A pair of Spartan seniors, Marco Linconir and Ignacio Velez, posted singles victories in the final home match of their careers and helped lead USC Upstate to a 6-1 victory over Belmont on Saturday at the Upstate Tennis Complex.
The Spartans earned the doubles point after sweeping all three doubles matches from the Bruins. Ramiro Blanco and Matias Di Pasquale defeated Rodrigo Amaral and Rafael Matos by a score of 8-4. Edgar Rodriguez and Gonzalo Blanco also claimed a 8-4 win, while Marco Linconir and Gianluca Paino won 8-2.
In singles action, the Spartans claimed straight set victories at positions two through six to pick up the 6-1 win.
Ramiro Blanco defeated Rafael Matos by a score of 6-2, 6-2 at number two singles, while Matias Di Pasquale earned a 6-4, 6-3 decision at singles number three.
Gonzalo Blanco claimed a 6-0, 6-1, win over Bruno Silva at singles number four. The senior duo of Marco Linconir (6-0, 6-0, Singles No. 5) and Ignacio Velez (6-1, 6-0, Singles No. 6) closed the door on the Bruins.
The Spartans will close out the 2011 season next Friday when they travel to Buies Creek, N.C., when they face the Campbell Camels.
