SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In their final home match of the season, the USC Upstate women's tennis team put up a valiant effort, but it was not enough as Belmont claimed a 5-2 victory on Saturday at the Upstate Tennis Complex.

Karen Martinez and Ana-Sofia Camberos claimed a 8-4 win at doubles number one and nearly picked up the doubles point, but Maria Tonani and Talia Rojas fell by a score of 8-6 at doubles number two.

In singles action, Ana-Sofia Camberos claimed a straight set win over Abby Leatherwood at singles number two by a score of 6-1, 6-4.

Talia Rojas picked up the second win of the day by picking up a thrilling victory over Catherine Holliday, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (6-1) at singles number four.

Senior Karen Martinez claimed the first set 6-4 over Lindsay Bennett, but Bennett rallied as she took set two by a score of 6-2 and won the tie breaker, 6-4.

Upstate will return to action next weekend when it plays the final match of the season on the road at Campbell.
