HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The USC Upstate volleyball team (10-14, 5-7 A-Sun) dropped a 3-0 decision (25-20, 25-22 and 25-15) on the road at Atlantic Sun Conference newcomer Northern Kentucky (21-5, 8-4 A-Sun) Friday night, snapping the Spartans' three-match winning-streak.
The Spartans were led by senior Emily Bingham (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and freshman Kayla Eversgerd (Breese, Ill.) with eight and seven kills, respectively. Bingham and sophomore Kayla McAvoy (Boiling Springs, S.C.) posted a team-high four total blocks on the night for Upstate. McAvoy posted three kills, while freshman Jaina Jackson (Huntley, Ill.) also registered three kills to go along with three assisted blocks.
Upstate freshman Lexi Gober (Edwardsville, Ill.) tallied her ninth double-double of the season, dishing out 22 assists and collecting 11 digs. The setter also recorded four kills on the night. Senior Emily Sanders (Sullivan, Ill.) anchored the Spartan defense, scooping up a team-high 13 digs. Eversgerd contributed seven digs, while Bingham added three.
Northern Kentucky was led by Shelby Buschur with 18 kills, while Kelly Morrissey was second on the squad with 10 kills. Morrissey completed the double-double, gathering 11 digs. Jenna Ruble and Jayden Julian helped the Norse, recording nine and eight kills, respectively. Jenna Schreiver quarterbacked the NKU offense, handing out a match-high 46 assists, while scooping up eight digs.
Kylee Taratino paced the Norse in digging, collecting a match-high 18 digs on the night. Mel Stewart helped, posting 10 digs. Bushur led the team at the net with a match-high five blocks.
