Spartans Pick-up Second Win of Campaign with Victory over Anderson

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With a 6-1 victory over Anderson University Wednesday afternoon, the USC Upstate women's tennis team now owns a 2-1 mark in 2012.

The Spartans earned the doubles point after taking two out of three matches Wednesday.  Upstate is now 36-1 all-time (D-I era) when claiming the doubles point.  Talia Rojas/Isabel von Stryk (doubles No. 1) and Julie Bell/Hannah Al-Sakati (doubles No. 2) both claimed victory by a score of 8-4. 

Upstate won five of the six singles matches in straight-sets; the only Anderson (1-2) victory came at singles No. 6. 

Isabel von Stryk picked up her second win of the season at singles No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Avery Owens.  Julie Bell also notched win number two as she downed Camie Beaulieu-Brune, 6-1, 6-2, at singles No. 2.

Talia Rojas claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Claire Larkin at singles No. 3, while Hannah Al-Sakati defeated Shelby Anderson, 6-4, 6-3 (singles No. 4).  At singles No. 5, Maria Tonani won set one with ease, 6-1, but was taken to a tiebreaker in set number two.  Tonani won the tiebreaker, 7-4, to claim the match.

The Spartans return to action tomorrow afternoon when they make the short trek down Pine Street to face Wofford at 2 p.m.
