SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to visiting Maryland-Baltimore County Saturday at the Upstate Tennis Complex.
The Spartans fell just short of claiming the doubles point as both Julie Bell/Ana-Sofia Camberos (doubles No. 2) and Hannah Al-Sakati/Maria Tonani (doubles No. 3) dropped 8-6 decisions, allowing the Retrievers to sweep the doubles matches.
Talia Rojas was the lone Spartan to pick up a singles victory Saturday. Rojas (No. 3 singles) claimed the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second set to Carmen Jackman, 4-6. In the decisive third set, Rojas was victorious, 10-8.
The Spartans will return to action Monday afternoon when they host Longwood at 2 p.m.
