SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate swept through doubles action en route to a victory over non-conference foe Longwood Monday at the Upstate Tennis Complex.
Ramiro Blanco and Matthias Kidler teamed up to defeat Giorgi Khmiadashvili and Daniel Elston, 8-3, at doubles No. 1. Yvon Haessig and Pierre Vernin claimed an 8-6 victory at doubles No. 2, while Gonzalo Blanco and Jacob Darling posted an 8-1 victory (No. 3).
Upstate picked up a trio of straight set victories to clinch the match Monday. Matthias Kidler posted a 6-3, 6-1 at singles No. 2, while Tyler Grove (6-4, 6-3, No. 5) and Pierre Vernin (6-1, 6-1, No. 6) clinched the match for the Spartans.
Upstate was ahead 1-0 in the remaining three singles matches, but the final tally was set at 4-0 as the final three matches were not finished.
The Spartans will return to action this weekend as the team travels to Jacksonville, Fla., for a pair of conference matches at North Florida and Jacksonville.
