DeLand, Fla. – Alyssa Welsh and Kait Jones each scored a pair of goals and Stetson netted three second half unanswered goals on its way to a 4-1 victory over the USC Upstate women's soccer team Friday night from the Athletic Training Center on the Stetson campus.

With the loss, Upstate falls to 3-7-3 overall and 0-3-1 in Atlantic Sun play, while Stetson improves to 5-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in league action.

Welsh put the Hatters ahead 1-0 early in the first half when she beat Upstate keeper Sarah Plantz in the 12th minute for the only goal of the first half. Jenna Premo picked up an assist on the play as her through ball inside the Spartan box found a streaking Welsh for a strike into the right corner of the net.

Upstate sophomore midfielder Kenzie Major netted the equalizer minutes into the second half when she capitalized on a free kick on the Stetson end of the field. Major initially set up behind the stationary ball, but opted to jump over it and go on the attack towards the Hatters' box. Senior midfielder Rebecca Sanzsole ultimately took the free kick and delivered the ball to the top of the box where Major connected for her second goal of the season.

Jones put Stetson ahead for good just over four minutes later and used a cross from the right side of the field off the foot of Alyssa Swett to give the Hatters a 3-1 edge. Jones struck again in the 69th minute to collect her fourth goal of the season. Welsh added her third point of the night as she was credited with the assist after her cross resulted in a one-timer by Swett to the far post.

Welsh scored on a breakaway in the 80th minute for the final goal of the contest. Mara Keomanivane sent a through ball that snuck through the Upstate back line and to the feet of Welsh for her second goal of the night and fourth of the season.

USC Upstate returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Spartans take on Florida Gulf Coast.
