Upstate Falls on the Road at #2 Duke

Durham, N.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team fell to the second-ranked Duke Blue Devils 123-40 Thursday evening in non-conference action at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Spartans fall to 2-2 on the season while the Blue Devils improve to 2-0 overall.

Maddie Herr and Valese McAllister were the leading scorers for Upstate after combining for 18 points. Herr tied her career-high of 10 points on 2-of-4 shooting from the floor and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. McAllister also posted a perfect mark at the charity stripe going 6-for-6 as she finished with eight points. Toni Romiti added six points off the bench, while Sharmayne Edwards and Paris Johnson added five each.

Tricia Liston led all Duke players with 20 points, and Haley Peters contributed a double-double on 17 points and 20 rebounds. Liston and Peters were two of seven players to score in double-figures.

Upstate shot over 80 percent at the free-throw line for the second straight game. The Spartans went 10-of-11 at the line against the Blue Devils for a 90.9 percent clip.

Duke compiled a 56.8 percent shooting percentage overall and 55.6 percent behind the three-point line. The Blue Devils were 21-of-30 (70 percent) at the free-throw line. Upstate shot 31.6 percent behind the arc and 20.7 percent from the field.

The Spartans return to action Sunday, Nov. 17 when they host the College of Charleston Cougars at 3 p.m. inside the Hodge Center.
