Spartans Cruise Past North Greenville in Final Non-Conference Game

Spartanburg, S.C. – Ty Greene scored 18 points and had five assists to lead a quartet of Spartans in double figures as USC Upstate cruised to a 94-61 victory over North Greenville Tuesday afternoon from the Hodge Center.

Ricardo Glenn finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Fred Miller added a career-high 15 points and five steals to help Upstate record the most steals in a game since collecting 17 against Kent State on Mar. 15, 2012. Miller also added 11 assists to help Upstate finish with 21 assists to mark the third time this season with at least 20 assists. It's also the third straight game with at least 17 helpers for the Spartans.

Torrey Craig registered 11 points, which included setting a new Upstate school record for the most career three-pointers with 256. The Great Falls, S.C., native also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to help the Spartans collect at least 40 rebounds for the fourth time this season.

Keith Johnson and Chris Dean both scored 16 points to lead North Greenville. Phillip Brown finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots.

North Greenville pulled to within six points late in the first half on back-to-back three-pointers from Thomas Horn and Johnson, but Upstate closed the first half on a 9-2 run over the final 2:47 to open up a 46-33 lead at halftime.

Upstate would lead by double digits the entire second half and put together a 21-point lead midway through the half on a layup by Miller at the 10:46 mark. North Greenville would get no closer than 19 points and Upstate closed the game on a 12-0 run over the final 2:11 to post its largest margin of victory this season.

Upstate returns to action Saturday at 4:30 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Macon, Ga., to take on Mercer in its conference opener.
