Spartanburg, S.C. – Ricardo Glenn had a double-double for the third straight game and USC Upstate ran its winning streak to three as the Spartans knocked off Kennesaw State 65-48 Friday night from the Hodge Center.
Glenn finished with 19 points, 12 points and two blocked shots to become the first Spartan since Bobby Davis in 2009 to have a double-double in three straight games. Torrey Craig added a double-double of his own with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Jodd Maxey contributed with 12 points and four rebounds, while Fred Miller tied a career-high with six assists.
Willy Kouassi led Kennesaw State with 15 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots, while Myles Hamilton poured in 10 points and five rebounds.
In a game that featured 14 lead changes and was tied 12 times, neither team could build more than a four-point lead during the first half. The two teams opened the second half just as cold, shooting a combined 5-for-21 from the field over the first 11:09 until Hamilton put Kennesaw State ahead 37-35 with a layup midway through the half.
A three-pointer by Miller 42 seconds later ignited a 17-4 by the Spartans that allowed Upstate to open up a 52-41 lead with 5:32 remaining. Upstate would hold Kennesaw State to just four field goals over the final 10:08.
Kennesaw State finished with only six field goals in the second half and ended the game 17-for-55 from the field, which included 1-for-14 from three-point range.
USC Upstate returns to action Sunday at 2 p.m. when the Spartans welcome Mercer to the Hodge Center.
