Upstate Drops Two Matches at No. 35 TCU

Fort Worth, Texas – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped matches by final scores 4-0 and 7-0 at #35 TCU Friday from the Friedman Tennis Center.

In the first match, the TCU duo of No. 18 Nick Chappell and Will Stein defeated Ramon Simonetti and Yvon Haessig 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles position to gain the early advantage. Hudson Blake and Blake Wiggins clinched the doubles point for the Horned Frogs with a 6-0 victory over Jamie Yates and Rajanvir Dharni at the No. 3 position.

Arnau Dachs put TCU ahead 2-0 when he bested Matthias Kidler 6-0, 6-1 from the No. 2 singles position. Jhonathan Gonzalez turned in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Yates at No. 5 to give TCU a 3-0 advantage before Andres Alfonzo sealed the win for the Horned Frogs with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Dharni.

TCU won the doubles point in the second match to go ahead 1-0, as Blake and Facundo Lugones captured the first match over Gonzalo Blanco and Yates by an 8-3 final score. Gonzalez and Rodolfo Bustamante secured the point for the Horned Frogs following their 8-5 win over Dharni and Pedro Carvalho at No. 2.

Bustamante turned in a 6-2, 6-0 singles win over Dharni and No. 4 to put TCU ahead 2-0. Gonzalez upped the TCU lead to 3-0 when he defeated Carvalho 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6, and Trey Daniel gave the Horned Frogs the win at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Haessig.

Upstate returns to action Saturday when the Spartans face Lamar at noon and San Francisco at 4 p.m.
