Upstate Suffers Setback at Davidson

Davidson, N.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback at Davidson Friday afternoon from the Knobloch Tennis Center.

Davidson was victorious in the first two doubles matches of the afternoon and went ahead 1-0 after winning the point. The Wildcat duo of Elise Held and Jenna Brunner posted an 8-1 win over Taylor Cohen and Sarah Vande Berg at the No. 3 position. Brites Moniz-Soares and Elaina Cummer clinched the point with an 8-5 win at No. 1 over Talia Rojas and Isabel von Stryk.

In singles action, Davidson used a 6-2, 6-0 win from Sarah Stein over Vande Berg at No. 4 to take a 2-0 lead. Moniz-Soares gave the Wildcats a 3-0 edge when she turned in a 6-0, 6-3 victory over von Stryk at No. 1. Cummer sealed the win for Davidson following her 7-5, 6-2 win over Anna Zoske at the No. 2 position.

Upstate returns to the court Tuesday when the Spartans travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., to face Gardner-Webb.
