Upstate Comes Up Short in Match at Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. – The Charlotte women's tennis team battled back from an early deficit to post a 4-3 victory over USC Upstate Friday afternoon from the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

USC Upstate claimed the doubles points with wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Isabel von Stryk and Anna Zoske turned in an 8-2 win over Tyler Baker and Lisa Grosselius from No. 1, while Taylor Cohen and Sarah Vande Berg defeated Victoria Pahlett and Natsuko Takayanagi 8-7 at No. 2.

In singles play, von Stryk was victorious at No. 1, posting a 6-4, 6-2 win over Pahlett. Cohen picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3 over Takayanagi.

Charlotte, however, won matches from the No. 2, 4, 5 and 6 positions to pick up the victory and improve to 3-5.

Upstate returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. when the Spartans host Nicholls State from the Upstate Tennis Complex.
