Upstate Men's Tennis Falls at Presbyterian

Clinton, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Presbyterian Wednesday afternoon from the Templeton Tennis Court.

Upstate enjoyed success early on when Matthias Kidler and Ramon Simonetti claimed the first doubles match of the day with an 8-3 victory over Rafael Berghaus and Joel Roberts from the No. 2 position. Presbyterian won the second match by earning the victory at No. 1, but the Spartan duo of Jamie Yates and Rajanvir Dharni defeated Diego Manzanas and Ben Kelley 8-5 at No. 3 to clinch the point for Upstate.

Manzanas rebounded for Presbyterian and turned in a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Pedro Carvalho to pull the Blue Hose even with Upstate at 1-1. Grayson Mills put Presbyterian out in front for the first time when he downed Kidler 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 to earn a point.

Berghaus won the third straight point for the Blue Hose and put Presbyterian ahead 3-1 in the process following his 6-3, 6-4 victory over Gonzalo Blanco at No. 2. Roberts clinched the match for Presbyterian at No. 3 with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Simonetti.

Upstate ended the match with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 victory from Yvon Haessig over Ryan Miller from the No. 4 position.

The Spartans return to the court Saturday at 11 a.m. when Upstate travels to Buies Creek, N.C., to battle Campbell.
