Campbell Earns 5-2 Victory over Upstate Men's Tennis

Buies Creek, N.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by Campbell Saturday afternoon in non-conference action from the Nisbet Tennis Center.

Upstate opened the match with a victory in double action when Yvon Haessig and Gonzalo Blanco defeated Fernando Guillen and Rik van Gerwen 6-5 (8-4) from the No. 2 position. Campbell, however, claimed the final two matches and won the doubles point to move ahead 1-0.

Guillen put Campbell up 2-0 following his 6-4, 6-1 singles victory over Ramon Simonetti at No. 1. Jamie Yates cut the deficit in half and pulled the Spartans to within one point when he downed Dominik Kaniewski 6-4, 6-4 from the No. 4 position.

Haessig knotted the match 2-2 after turning in a 6-1, 5-6 (2-8), 6-3 victory over van Gerwen at No. 3. The Camels won the final three matches to claim the match and post their second consecutive victory.

Upstate returns to action Sunday at 12 p.m. when the Spartans head to Greensboro, N.C., to face UNC Greensboro from the UNCG Tennis Courts.
