Spartans Drop Match at UNC Greensboro

Greensboro, N.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by UNC Greensboro Sunday afternoon from the UNCG Tennis Courts.

UNCG captured the opening doubles match of the afternoon when James Dougherty and Randy Phillips defeated Matthias Kidler and Ramon Simonetti 6-3 from the No. 1 position. The UNCG duo of Ahmet Sarioglu and Daniel Mack secured the point and put the Spartans ahead 1-0 following a 6-5 (7-2) win at No. 2 over Gonzalo Blanco and Yvon Haessig.

Sarioglu put UNCG ahead 2-0 when he turned in a 6-3, 6-1 singles win over Simonetti at No. 1. Phillips upped the UNCG lead to 3-0 following his 6-2, 6-1 victory over Blanco from the No. 3 position, while Dougherty clinched the win for UNCG with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Haessig at No. 2.

Upstate returns to action Friday at 2 p.m. when the Spartans host UNC Asheville in the home opener from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
