Highland Heights, Ky. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team won its second match of the weekend following a 5-2 victory over Northern Kentucky Saturday afternoon from the Yeager Tennis Complex.
Spartan seniors Matthias Kidler and Gonzalo Blanco took the first doubles match following an 8-3 win over Mate Virag and Pierce Kohls at the No. 1 position. Ramon Simonetti and Yvon Haessig posted an 8-3 win over Jody Maginley and Christopher Angulo at No. 2 to clinch the point for the Spartans.
Rajanvir Dharni put Upstate out in front 2-0 when he defeated Balint Zsidai 6-3, 6-0 from the No. 5 singles position. Virag cut the Upstate lead in half after he turned in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Simonetti at No. 1.
Jamie Yates picked up the third point of the match for Upstate with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Maginley from the No. 3 position, while Carlos Tajes clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Nick Lang at No. 6.
Upstate goes for its third straight victory March 29 at 2 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on North Florida.
