Statesboro, Ga. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team won its third straight match following a 5-2 win at Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon from the Hanner Tennis Complex.

Upstate was originally scheduled to face North Florida on Saturday, but heavy rain in and around the Jacksonville, Fla., area forced the postponement with the Ospreys. Due to better weather in Statesboro and no schedule conflict, Upstate and Georgia Southern agreed to move the match up one day and play on Saturday rather than Sunday. The Spartans will now face North Florida Sunday at noon.

The Spartans got off to a strong start by winning the doubles point after claiming the first two matches. Seniors Matthias Kidler and Gonzalo Blanco turned in a 6-1 victory over Christian Kerrigan and Nico DeGroof at the No. 1 position, while Rajanvir Dharni and Pedro Carvalho defeated Albert Codina Sala and Marco Osorio 6-2 at No. 3 to clinch the point.

Kidler put Upstate ahead 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 singles win over Osorio at No. 1. Carlos Tajes followed suit and defeated Rafael Racy 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 to put the Spartans ahead 3-0.

DeGroof registered the first point of the match for Georgia Southern when he bested Yvon Haessing 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4. Ramon Simonetti, however, clinched the match for Upstate with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Kyle Hoffman at no. 2.

Blanco also picked up a win following a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Codina Sala at No. 3.
