Lipscomb Takes Rubber Game from Upstate to Win Series

Spartanburg, S.C. – Denton Norman allowed one run on four hits in seven innings of work to lead Lipscomb to an 11-1 victory over USC Upstate Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game series from Harley Park.

Lipscomb (18-11, 7-2) pushed a run across the board in the first inning on an RBI groundout from left fielder Tyson Ashcraft. Jonathan Allison and Grant Massey both drew walks to start the game, and Drew Adams reached safely to load the bases on a bunt single placed perfectly in between pitcher Zac Manuppelli and catcher Luke Weber. Ashcraft followed with a grounder to shortstop to put the Bisons ahead 1-0.

Upstate (10-19, 2-7) tied the game in the bottom of the second on an opposite field home run off the bat of second baseman Daniel Seeba.

Lipscomb regained the lead in the third inning on an RBI single from second baseman Mike Korte and an RBI double from catcher Tyler Bethune to move ahead 3-1. Korte finished the game with two hits and a game-high three RBIs.

The Bisons would go one to score eight more runs over the final five innings and win the series.

Massey finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored, while Allison and Adam Lee each had three hits for Lipscomb.

Seeba and Erik Samples both tallied two hits for Upstate, which included a pair of doubles from Samples to up his league-leading total to 13.

Manuppelli suffered the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in three innings on the hill.

Upstate returns to the diamond Tuesday at 6 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Charlotte, N.C., to take on Charlotte from Hayes Stadium.
