Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate senior Taylor Cohen turned in two victories in her final home match in a Spartan uniform Saturday afternoon in a 4-3 setback to Kennesaw State from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Cohen, along with fellow senior Talia Rojas, captured an 8-0 victory over Tamara Plocher and Blaire LaSure from the No. 2 doubles position in the first match of the day. Kennesaw State, however, took the final two matches to claim the point and take a 1-0 lead.
Plocher put the Owls ahead 2-0 when she defeated Lindsey Buenger 6-1, 6-0 from the No. 5 singles position, while Alexandra Apostu increased the lead to 3-0 following her 6-2, 6-1 victory over Anna Zoske at No. 2.
Cohen kept Upstate alive and registered the first Spartan point of the afternoon to cut the deficit to 3-1 after knocking off Isabela Castro 6-2, 7-5 from the No. 3 position. Jana Hueckinghaus sealed the victory for Kennesaw State with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Rojas at No. 4.
In the final two matches, Upstate received a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 from Sarah Vande Berg and a 4-6, 7-6, 13-11 win by Isabel von Stryk at No. 1.
