DeLand, Fla. – Kevin Fagan went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and Stetson set a school record with 29 hits en route to a 20-4 victory over USC Upstate Friday night from Melching Field.

The 29 hits surpassed the previous record of 26 set by the 2005 Hatters in a Feb. 26 game against Siena.

Back-to-back singles from Fagan and Tyler Bocock and an RBI groundout to the right side from Patrick Mazeika allowed Stetson to score the first run of the game and take a 1-0 lead over Upstate in the first inning.

Stetson increased its lead in the second inning by scoring seven runs on nine hits, which included six straight singles, to open up an 8-0 lead. Left fielder Mike Fernland had a pair of hits and one RBI in the inning.

The Hatters used a two-run single from Taylor Cockrell, an RBI double from Garrett Russini and an RBI single from Kyle Zech to score four more runs in the third inning and build a 12-0 advantage.

Upstate pushed across a pair of runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Zach Krider and an RBI double by Stephen Dowling. Daniel Seeba opened the inning with a single to left field and took third when Erik Samples doubled to right field. Two batters later, Krider picked up his 26th RBI of the season with a single through the left side. Samples scored later in the inning on Dowling's seventh double of the season.

After Stetson struck for three more runs in the fourth inning, Upstate answered with two runs in the fifth on an RBI double from Tyler Lesch and a sacrifice fly by Samples. Lesch drove in Dylan Woods, who singled to start the inning, from first base, while Samples tallied his team-leading 32nd RBI of the season two batters later.

Seeba paced the Spartans on offense and finished with two hits and one run scored.

Stetson starting pitcher Austin Perez pitched five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits en route to his second win of the season. David Roseboom pitched 2.2 innings and took the loss.

Upstate and Stetson put the finishing touches on a three-game series Saturday at 1 p.m. from Melching Field.
